Disruptive Monitoring Technologies for Sleep and Respiratory Care To be introduced to Phillips Healthcare

Mar. 15, 2016

Technologies of interest are non-contact and unobtrusive sensing to measure or detect one or more of the following parameters in the home:

– Activity such as walking, household tasks
– Respiratory rate and pattern
– Respiratory muscle effort – muscles used to exhale would be of interest
– Heart rate
– Respiratory Sounds – cough, wheeze and sneeze
– Light intensity and spectrum exposed to the eyes
– Sound – sound levels and spectrum for home and bedroom. Special interest in psycho-acoustic analysis.
– Indicators of arterial blood gas – oxygen and carbon dioxide levels in the blood
– Sympathetic activation – physiological measures of stress
– Location of individual within the house for the purpose of trending daily routine and energy expenditure
– Body position while in bed – back, side and on stomach
– Sleep stage –  awake, asleep, NREM,  REM

Measurement of a more limited set of these metrics outside of the home to provide  continuous metric assessment 24 hours per day would also be of value. Examples  might include activity, light exposure, etc.

Philips Healthcare is open to a wide range of business relationships:
Supplier/distribution
Licensing/royalties
Co-development
Acquisition of patents and intellectual property

Submissions are evaluated on technical feasibility and maturity, level of unobtrusiveness and potential to disrupt the standard of care in sleep and respiratory market.
